Handloom for export
Silk weaving is a long standing tradition in Tamil Nadu that is best illustrated in its incarnation of exclusive sarees. But this age old tradition needs to find new forms of expression and market in order to survive in a globally competitive market. Thus Priya used her design skills and knowledge of international trends to transform the saree weaving finesse and applied it to develop a range of contemporary home products and fashion accessories with a broader global appeal. The project aims to create new channels for exports using design intervention. This project was sponsored by the Development Commissioner of Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles and implemented at the Thirubuvanam Cooperative Silk Society in Tamil Nadu.
